Today was the day I got to hear a heartbeat for the first time. I had a routine 16 weeks midwife appointment. And they checked to see if they could find a heartbeat with a Doppler - they did. Yay, was convinced things would have gone wrong.
And no more bleeding since about 8 or 9 weeks.
When people ask how I am I reply "okay" but the truth is I have a new okay, a sub-standard one compared to my old okay. Why? My second pregnancy was complicated by preterm Premature Rupture of the Membranes (pPROM) at just over 21 weeks resulting in the death of my son at just over 31 weeks. Since then I have had two miscarriages. This is the continuing story of my new okay.

Booking in appointment
I had my booking in appointment last week. The midwife tried to reassure me that it is very common for women to have bleeding in the first trimester and said these women rarely ever miscarry. She offered to get me a scan but I would have to say I had pain etc. and I haven't, this is because they do not scan just because of maternal concern. I decided I couldn't exaggerate the situation. It is only 4 weeks until the next midwife appointment where they will listen to the heartbeat...
